Formation Java 25 & Spring Boot 4 – Migrate and master the 2026 standards

Master Java 25 LTS, Spring Boot 4 and Hibernate 7, and lead the migration of an existing codebase to 2026 standards

This training is designed for Java developers who need to converge towards Spring Boot 4 and Java 25 LTS. It covers both mastering the new language and framework capabilities, and the real conduct of a production migration: strategy, OpenRewrite tooling, classic pitfalls and industrialization. You work on PaymentHub, a red-thread application built in Spring Boot 4 and Java 25, then apply a reproducible playbook to legacy codebases on day three.

Course objectives

Use modern Java features between versions 17 and 25 LTS: advanced pattern matching, record deconstruction, sealed types, switch expressions
Implement concurrency models stabilized in Java 25: virtual threads, structured concurrency (JEP 505) and scoped values
Design a production-ready Spring Boot 4 application with Spring Framework 7, JSpecify and stable HTTP versioning
Use the new HTTP clients RestClient and @HttpExchange (successors to RestTemplate and WebClient)
Map a Hibernate 7 model following 2026 standards and fix performance issues (N+1) via JOIN FETCH or @EntityGraph
Secure an API with Spring Security 7 (lambda DSL, OAuth2, OIDC, JWT) and instrument with Micrometer + OpenTelemetry
Define and execute a Java 8/11/17 to Java 25 migration strategy with jdeps, jdeprscan, OpenRewrite and Error Prone
Lead the Spring Boot 2.x → 3.x → 4.0 migration (Jakarta EE switch) with OpenRewrite recipes and a reproducible playbook
Lead the Hibernate 5 → 7 and Spring Security 5 → 7 migration while securing breaking changes
Implement a production rollout strategy (canary, feature flags, metrics) and choose between rolling upgrade and strangler pattern

Detailed program (14 modules)

Overview of major JEPs, advanced pattern matching (instanceof, switch, record deconstruction, guards), records and sealed types for domain modeling, var and type inference. Critical reading of ecosystem choices.

  • DevOps or SRE engineers working on Spring Boot applications

Prerequisites

  • Regular Java practice in a professional environment: classes, lambdas, streams, generics
  • First operational experience with Spring Boot 2.x minimum on a real-world application
  • Understanding of relational databases, transactions and JPA persistence
  • Comfortable with Git, Maven or Gradle, and a Java IDE (IntelliJ IDEA recommended)
